U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday in reply to a question on how the U.S. withdrawal from Syria will impact Israel that “we give Israel $4.5 billion” security every year, and so “Israel will be very good.”
Speaking to reporters on the way back from a trip to American troops stationed in Iraq, Trump said: “I spoke with Bibi. I told Bibi, you know we give Israel 4.5 billion dollars a year. And they are doing very well at defending themselves.”

Как я понимаю, никто уже даже не пытается задаваться вопросом, откуда взялась цифра «4.5 миллиарда»; по соглашению, подписанному Обамой и Нетаньяху в 2016 году, сумма помощи составляет 38 миллиардов за 10 лет (заклятый враг Израиля Обама согласился на увеличение ежегодной помощи на 27%; кстати, увеличение вступило в силу только 3 месяца назад, с 2019 финансового года, так что Израиль этих денег фактически еще не даже не видел). Ну да на эти мелочи уже давно никто не обращает внимания.
Сверх-лояльная американским властям AIPAC сначала ретвитнула несколько критических комментариев в адрес Трампа ([1], [2]) и наконец выпустила следующий сверх-осторожный официальный комментарий:
AIPAC Statement on Syria Withdrawal
With the decision announced yesterday to immediately withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, it is imperative that Iran and Hezbollah are prevented from exploiting this development to further destabilize the region and threaten our allies. The administration should work with our regional allies and take steps to counter the mounting aggression of Iran and its terrorist proxy Hezbollah. Iran must not be allowed to have a permanent military presence in Syria, which is counter to U.S. interests and threatens the peace and security of the region.
